Participation

Purpose of the Policy

To make clear that all Members/ Associate members have an obligation and responsibility to share in the management and operation of the co-op. Member involvement means the active involvement of the members in the governance of the co-op and in the co-op as a community. Co-ops are about mutual self-help, your basic obligation as a co-op member is to make a contribution to making the community work.


Policy

1. All co-op members are required to participate in 1 or more Official Co-op committee(s). Participation for Members over 65 years of age is voluntary and appreciated. (All committees must be approved by the Board of Directors)


2. The co-op recognizes that members may have different abilities, skills, limitations, and availability. The Co-op’s committees will provide opportunities for participation that are appropriate to each member.


3. In order to meet their obligations under the Occupancy Agreement, and unless exempt for medical reasons, of the age of 65 and over or reasons subject to approval of the Board of Directors; members are required to:

  • Contribute at least four (4) hours of volunteer labour per UNIT per month (or 48 hours annually). By serving on a committee, or the Board of Directors and/or doing assigned tasks. These hours must be accumulated by a member or associate member, living in the individual unit.

  • Attend all called General Meetings. Such as the AGM and the SAGM. If unable to attend, contact the co-op Secretary with regrets.

Procedure

1. Participation will be monitored by the Co-op Committee leads. The leaders of 

these committees will file a participation report at the end of each month.


2. Committee description, meeting date/ location will be posted at the office and 

the Townhouse/ FB-AB Apartment message boards.
